Strategy Map Overview

A visual map of your content strategy — pillars through topics, with topic-level Add Guidance and Mark path complete when a focus path is done.

What is the Strategy Map?

The Strategy Map is a visual map of your content strategy in Averi. It connects high-level strategy to specific content ideas and drafts.

Use it to:

  • See what topics you should cover
  • Prioritize content based on research
  • Generate outlines and drafts directly from strategy

Strategy Map Structure

The Strategy Map moves from broad → specific:

  • High-level themes for your brand.
  • Sub-themes that group related content.
  • Keyword, trend, and competitor insights.
  • Individual article ideas with search intent.
  • Generated briefs and draft content

How to Use the Strategy Map

Review and approve your Content Pillars

  • Left sidebar → Strategy Map
  • Averi generates Content Pillars based on your ICP's pain points (defined in Brand Core) and your strategic objectives.
  • Review each pillar and click Approve to keep it, or Reject to open options for replacing it. Both buttons appear at the bottom of each pillar card.
  • When you reject a pillar, a popover opens to the right of the card with three options: Regenerate with AI, Create your own (provide a short direction and AI builds the full pillar), or Delete pillar.
  • Use the Add Pillar button in the bottom-right corner to add more pillars via AI or with your own guidance. You'll need a minimum of 2 pillars and a maximum of 8 pillars.
  • All pillars must be approved before you can generate focus areas.

For more detail on editing pillars after initial setup, see Updating your Strategy Map.

Generate Focus Areas from a Content Pillar

  • Once all pillars are approved, click Generate Focus Areas on a Content Pillar.

Explore Focus Areas

  • Review your Focus Areas (specific angles) for the Content Pillar.
  • Click Research & Generate Topics to get more specific.

Use focus areas to see clusters of related content and where to build depth.

Review Research Insights & Generate Content Outlines

Use Research Insight to dive into:

  • Gap Analysis — why you should commit to this Focus Area based on the competitive content landscape
  • Competition Level
  • Top Ranking Content for that Focus Area
  • Keywords

Review your Topics: When one topic needs direction open Add guidance on that topic’s card (the + icon to the left of Generate Content Outlines) and save your notes before you click Generate Content Outlines — Averi incorporates that guidance when building outlines. Then click Generate Content Outlines to begin drafting and editing.

For more detail, see Updating your Strategy Map.

Generate your draft

When you generate outlines, Averi will take you to the Planning page to review your outlines, add any guidance to the outlines — specific details or stats you'd like to incorporate or any notes you'd like to give Averi about the topic — and click Generate Draft.

As topics under a Focus Area move into editing and beyond, you may become eligible to Mark path complete on that focus area: that wraps up the path and optionally soft-archives topics you did not use. See Updating your Strategy Map.

Edit your draft and publish from Averi

When your first draft is complete, it will move into the Editing phase. Click Edit Content to refine your draft in the Content Editor — add images, tables, and copy changes. Cited sources from research cannot be edited or deleted on that first draft. When you're done, Mark as Complete in the top right.

Your completed content will move to Finalized in the Planning page and now you can Publish to your CMS.

View All mode

Use View All to see your entire Strategy Map at once in a zoomed-out overview.

  • Click View All in the bottom-right corner of the map.
  • The map shows all Content Pillars and Focus Areas. Click any node to expand or collapse its children.
  • Click Expand All to open every branch, or Close View All to return to the default view.
  • When new children are generated while in View All mode, the map automatically expands and focuses on the updated branch.
  • You'll only be able to view generated Focus Areas, Research & Topics in View All mode.

Best Practices

  • Review and approve all pillars before diving into focus areas.
  • Start with one pillar and go deep before expanding for faster results.
  • Prioritize sub-topics with clear search intent.
  • Use research to guide decisions.
  • Use View All mode to see the big picture and spot gaps across pillars.
  • Treat the map as a living system — update pillars as your strategy evolves.
  • Use Add guidance on a topic when that article needs custom direction (angles, compliance, proof points).
  • Mark path complete on a Focus Area when that path is done: it tidies the map so active planning stays uncluttered.
