Updating your Strategy Map
Manage Strategy Map updates, including pillar edits, Add Guidance on topics, and Mark path complete to wrap up a focus area path.
You can update your Strategy Map at any time by editing individual Content Pillars. For an overview of how Content Pillars, Focus Areas, and Topics work together, see Strategy Map Overview.
Updating Content Pillars
Replacing a pillar
If a pillar doesn't fit, click the X icon in the top right of the pillar card to reject it and open the action popover. If you want to replace a pillar with something new, you have 2 options:
Regenerate with AI - Click Regenerate with AI to have Averi replace the pillar with a new suggestion.
Create your own - Click Create your own to provide a short direction (for example, "cover the regulatory angle"). Averi uses your guidance to generate a content pillar - name, description, and rationale.
Deleting a pillar
If you'd like to remove a content pillar completely, click the X icon in the top right of the pillar then click Delete pillar. Deleting removes that pillar and everything under it on that branch (including focus areas and topics that have not moved into your content pipeline yet).
You must keep at least 2 content pillars on your Strategy Map.
You cannot delete a pillar if any topic under it already has content outlines generated. Remove or archive those outlines first, then try again.
You can delete a pillar that already has focus areas generated, as long as you have not generated outlines from topics on that pillar yet.
Adding a pillar
Click Add Pillar in the bottom-right corner of your Strategy Map to add a new Content Pillar (maximum 8). You can choose:
- Generate with AI - Averi creates a new pillar based on your existing strategy.
- Create your own - provide a short direction and Averi builds the pillar from your suggestion.
Adding Guidance Before Generating Outlines
Use Add Guidance at the topic level before generating outlines for that topic if you would like to pursue that topic, but want to add some specific instructions before generating the outlines.
Open the topic on the map
Expand your Strategy Map to the Topic (reminder: your Strategy Map structure is Content Pillar → Focus Areas → Research → Topic) you want to steer.
Open Add guidance
On the topic card, click the Add guidance control (the + icon to the left of Generate Contend Outlines).
Write, save, or clear
In the Add Guidance modal, enter up to 500 characters of direction you'd like to see reflected in the outlines for that topic.
Click Save to keep your guidance, Remove to clear saved guidance, or Cancel to close without changes.
Generate outlines
Click Generate Content Outlines on that topic when you are ready. Averi passes your saved guidance into outline generation for that topic.
Mark a Focus Area complete
Mark path complete is how you wrap up a Focus Area path you are done with: the focus area is marked Completed, in-flight outlines are archived, and you decide what happens to topics you never generated outlines for. Unused topics are removed from the map but restorable.
Why mark a path complete: It clears finished work from your planning surface, closes out WIP outline tasks for that path, and optionally hides topics you are never going to write — without losing history you might need later.
You can choose to mark a Focus Area complete when at least 2 of the Topics in that Focus Area each have at least 2 pieces of content drafted. It is hidden while you are in View All; switch back to the default view to mark a Focus Area complete.
Find a completed Focus Area path
On the Focus Area, when you are eligible, a Mark path complete button appears.
Click Mark path complete
Click Mark path complete to have Averi mark that focus area complete, archive outstanding outline drafts for that path, and ask what to do with unused topics (topics you have not taken through outline generation).
- Archive unused topics — Take them off the map while keeping an audit trail; you can restore them later.
- Keep unused topics — Leave every topic visible on the map.
Finish
Click Confirm to apply. The map updates so you can focus on active paths while keeping a record of what you completed.
